Subject and Content of the Workshops

1. Music in the Dancing Couple

Q: What is tango?

A: Tango is walking to music, aware and together

Workshop 1 - Music in the Dancing Couple - 90 min

If we liken learning tango to learning a foreign language, then musicality is like… pronunciation: we learn how to pronounce vowels and consonants, how to use accents and intonation. Let’s train to react to music and, listening to it, to integrate it into our dance. We will be using individual and couple exercises, we will develop our musical memory, and will learn about rhythm elements and orchestras.
We are going to work on:
- Orientation in music; counting; musical memory; rhythmic patterns and our reaction to them; basic structures in tango
- Important rhythmic patterns in tango; the structure of a song; basic elements in tango: walking, ocho and giro
- Sequences of several rhythmic models; analysis of a song in versions produced by different orchestras; simple and (more) complex structures
2. Improvisation, Navigation & Music
3. Changes of Direction & Music
4. Giro from Simple to Complex Turns

Invited teachers

Amalia and Daniel have been teaching tango for nearly seventeen years and have guided countless dancers in Romania and abroad. Some of their students teach and perform in most of the major cities in Romania and several European countries.

Amalia and Daniel have performed on national and international stages for more than 15 years and in over 150 tango shows. Their tango education started with traditional Argentinian milongueros and then continued on to some of the greatest masters of tango today such as Gustavo Naveira and Pablo Veron.

Their style of teaching is focused on clear explanations and preliminary exercises that can be practised individually and can also be incorporated into the dance. Amalia and Daniel believe strongly that tango should be danced, enjoyed, studied and explored and that tango can become a means of enriching one’s life.
